Thank you for your interest in BikFit’s mobile fitting services.
For starters, we are traditional road cycling fitters. If you would like a referral to a time trial or triathlon fitting specialist, just call Eric and he can supply you with a name or two. We also fit mountain bike cyclists, and we'll even install a slick rear wheel so your bike will work on our stationary trainer.
We have five different packages and pricing options (Only Package A is available in certain parts of Los Angeles, Riverside and San Bernardino Counties. Please contact Eric for further information).
General Pricing Information
A. $200*- Deluxe fitting services (formerly known as the "comprehensive custom fitting")
B. $150*- Comprehensive fitting services
C. $100* -Cleat/pedal adjustments and laser alignment of feet, knees, and hips.
D. $125 -Standard fitting services for those without clipless pedals.
E. $75 - Body measurements, frame geometry recommendations, and bike buying service.
*Parts are extra (for A, B and C). Typically these would be pedal washers (to adjust stance width), shims (to adjust for leg length differences), wedges (to adjust for forefoot varus/valgus), and longer screws (to attach the shims or wedges). These items are only used on an as needed basis, and will typically cost between $5 - $40 for everything.
If you are getting a complete fit (package A, B or D), you may need new components to get you properly or safely set up; these are usually the stem, saddle, seatpost and/or pedal extenders. The cost of these, or any other needed components, are not included in our services.
The price of the Packages A-D includes adjustments for 1 bike and 1 pair shoes/cleats. Additional shoe setup is $20 per pair (plus parts, if needed). If you want additional bikes set up, please call for a quote.
Payments can be made by cash, check, or credit card/debit card via PayPal.
If you purchase a frameset or complete bike from any of our custom frame partners, our fitting services are included as a credit toward your purchase.
If you don't see a package that suits your needs, please give us a call and we can give you a customized quote.
Detailed breakdown of each package and the services included
A. Deluxe Fitting Package ($200)
This is the service for those who use a clipless pedal system, want the most comprehensive of our fitting sessions, and would like to have their complete measurements taken. Please be prepared to spend around 4 hours honing your position. By the end of the session you will not only have fine tuned your position on your current bike, but will also have all the information necessary to make educated decisions on future frame purchases.
All fits are dynamic, which means you will be riding your bike on a stationary trainer as part of the process.
To schedule your deluxe fitting session, please call Eric at 858-414-7093.
Here's what's included:
- A telephone and/or email interview during which your health, cycling goals, fitness level, current gear, etc., will be discussed.
- Everything needed to perform the fit, including a stationary trainer and fan.
- Your current component placement and bike will be carefully measured, recorded, and sent to you with a Park Tool Road Positioning Chart. If you want to duplicate your position on another bike, you’ll know how.
- Anatomical measurements will be taken, and your ideal frame geometry will be determined.
- Measurements are compared to the results of the Competitive Cyclist fit calculator.
- You will be checked for leg length/arm length discrepancies, pelvic tilt, and pelvic rotation. Your feet will be evaluated and checked for pronation/supination, forefoot varus/valgus, and natural position.
- Flexibility evaluation.
- Cleats are adjusted, and if needed, feet/knees/hips are aligned with a laser. Wedges and shims may also be installed and adjusted. We'll spend as much time as needed to get your shoes, feet, and pedals to feel just right.
- Your position will be evaluated and adjustments made during various modes of cycling. All changes are based on angles measured with a goniometer. Changes are never made based on static measurements or formulas.
- Saddle height, seat fore/aft, saddle tilt, and saddle comfort are established.
- Your bike may be fitted with a sizing stem, which will help you determine your reach to the handlebars. A sizing stem will allow us to change the stack height, the length of the stem, and the angle of the stem. You will no longer have to guess what a new stem might feel like, or how it will affect your position.
- Handlebar tilt and brake lever placement are established.
- If changes have been made, all final component placements are again measured, recorded, and will be sent to you.
- Referrals may be given to other medical professionals, including chiropractors, physical therapists, podiatrists, or medical doctors.
- Written follow-up with frame geometry recommendations, and an analysis of our session.
- Telephone/email follow-up.
B. Comprehensive fitting package ($150)
This is also a service for those with clipless pedals, and includes everything from package A, with the following exceptions:
-
Salsa Sizing Stem will not be used
-
Fewer body measurements will be taken
-
The Competitive Cyclist fit calculator will not be used
-
Fewer bike measurements will be taken (Park Tool positioning chart will not be provided)
-
A comprehensive written analysis will not be provided
This is still a very thorough fit, so you should still be prepared to spend around 3 hours during your session.
You are probably better off with the Deluxe Fit (package A), if any of the following apply to you:
-
You may be buying a new frame in the next couple of years, especially if you are considering a custom built frame
-
You want to replicate your new position on multiple bikes
-
You travel with your bike
-
You are shorter than 5'6" or taller than 6'2"
-
You have long arms or legs
-
You have short arms or legs
-
You have a cycling related injury or severe discomfort
C. Cleat/Pedal/Laser Alignment Package ($100)
We don't recommend this service unless you have been professionally fit within the past couple of years.
This package is for those who are happy with their overall fit, but would like to fine tune their foot/pedal interface on systems such as Look, Time, Campy, Shimano, or Speedplay. Many cyclists complain of pain in the balls of their feet, suffer from arch or toe cramping, or experience uncomfortable pressure, also known as shoe "hot spots". Most of these problems can be greatly reduced, or altogether cured, with this service. This package is also recommended for those who have purchased new shoes and/or pedals.
The length of this appointment is contingent on the complexity of your situation. If you need pedal washers/spacers, shims, and wedges, this could take a few hours. That said, most appointments will take around two hours. Please make sure that your cleats are in good working order, as we don't inventory these items if yours are worn out.
To schedule your Cleat/Pedal Service, please call Eric at 858-414-7093.
Here's what's included:
- On bike evaluation to determine pelvic tilt, rotation, or functional leg length differences.
- The following measurements: upper and lower legs, hips, and stance width (Q factor).
- Complete foot evaluation to determine pronation/supination, forefoot varus/valgus, and your natural position while clipped in.
- Cleat alignment and adjustments (fore/aft, side-to-side, and rotation).
- Laser alignment of hips, knees, and feet.
- If needed, installation and adjustment of pedal washer/spacers, shims, and/or wedges (these items are additional, see pricing at top of page).
D. Comprehensive Fitting; Toe clips/straps (for those without clipless pedals)($125)
This is the fitting service for those who are riding with toe clips and straps. This appointment includes everything in package A, minus the full cleat/pedal services.
E. Complete Anatomical Measurements and frame/bike buying services($60)
This service is for those who know they want a new bike. Take the guesswork out of deciding which frame geometry is going to work best for your body. Have you ever wondered if you are a candidate for a custom frame? Have you had difficulty getting a bike that feels right? Do you worry that you may purchase the wrong bike for your body? Our measurement and bike buying service can help.
Cyclists with average builds are usually able to ride a stock frame or a production bike that will work perfectly well with their bodies. It's usually the folks that have unusual proportions (i.e. long or short torsos vs. inseam length), and those who have back problems who are typically candidates for custom frames. Shorter riders (less than 5'5"), particularly women, and tall riders (6'2"+) are also excellent candidates for custom built bikes. Particular caution should be paid to the steep seat tube angles many companies offer on their "women's specific geometry." For an in depth look at this issue, please visit Georgena Terry's excellent series of videos.
Once you do get your new bike, if you would like to get a bike fit, I will apply your $60 as a credit the price of Package A (Deluxe Fitting Package).
